What are blinds? These are decorative shades usually used on windows and doors to control the amount of light entering your house. But at times, these are problems, mainly the accumulation of dust particles over it, which is a trick to be cleaned. Fortunately, there are specific strategies that, when followed, can help you clean the dust particles properly too with little effort, which we will be discussing out here.
1. Get the required equipment
Obviously, before starting the remedies to clean the blinds, you need to have the following equipment available as if not so then the entire process can be hectic and problematic, these includes-
- A vacuum cleaner along with a soft brush attached to it.
- The next would be a cloth (a microfiber cloth is usually preferred)
- The other item would be a dishwasher
- Warm water to clean the dust without damaging the blinds.
- And lastly, baking soda.
After gathering all the required materials, we will proceed with our tasks to clean the blinds.
2. Proceed by closing the blinds.
As basic as it may sound, some end up starting the procedure by simply beginning to clean it with the blinds open. Unfortunately, this approach makes the process laborious, along with increasing the possibility of damaging it. Thus, we start the process by fully lowering the blind. Most vertical blinds and Venetian blinds retain the ability to be lowered easily. In contrast, some of the outdoor blinds are to be just tilted and not completely closed as closing ultimately will make the blinds overlap, making it problematic to clean.
3. Hold the bottom end of the blind to limit its movements.
After doing so, it is advisable to use the materials discussed in point one, where you wipe the dust with the help of a cloth. A downward motion should be followed while cleaning it, starting from the top till the bottom. Later, you can use a vacuum cleaner, as mentioned, while keeping the suction power to a minimum. The process is the same for the horizontal blinds, and the only difference is the motion you follow while cleaning up the blinds. Here, it would help if you wiped from side to side.
4. Repeat the other side to clean on both sides.
Sometimes, the dust accumulated can be very stubborn to be removed due to not cleaning it on time. Worry not. At times like these, you need to use relatively rough clothes to remove the dust. You can even apply some warm water too. The process applies to both the vertical and the horizontal blinds.
5. Use warm water for outdoor blinds.
The vertical blinds consist of dust or mainly stains accumulated because of where it is situated. Such places include kitchens or some restaurants where it gets exposed to grease, stubborn dust, etc. At times like these, you need to take the window blinds and dip them into a mixture of warm water and baking soda. The combination is pretty hard on such stubborn stains and therefore helps you to clean outdoor blinds.
6. Use a vacuum cleaner.
It is always a reliable option as it helps you clean the dust present in the blinds with ease and with less effort. Also, the use of it reduces the burden of damaging your outdoor blinds. It applies to both vertical blinds as well as horizontal blinds.
7. Try to clean your blinds regularly.
Regularly cleaning the outdoor blinds helps you avoid dealing with the stubborn dust, which we have already discussed in point five.
Well, these are the strategies to clean the vertical blinds and the horizontal blinds clean, thereby giving your outdoor blinds a clean look.
